Easy Crochet Hat Variations

RIMMED HAT

To make a rim for your hat, follow the Easy Crochet Hat Pattern. Once your hat is the correct size and you are working on the 10 rounds of sc in each sc, it is very simple to create a rim. After doing 6 or 7 rounds of your hat color, carefully cut the yarn and tie on the color you wish to use for your rim, and then finish you rounds using that color. The nice thing about a rim is that you can keep it folded up for a shorter hat, or fold it down to have a longer hat.

If you made your hat with a solid color, add some flavor to it by making your rim multicolored yarn
or
If you made your hat with multicolored yarn, end it off with a nice solid color (like I did)

STRIPED HAT
If you do not have enough of two colors to make an entire hat, make a striped one instead! Follow my Easy Crochet Hat Pattern, but cut your yarn and tie on another color when you want a stripe.

          Changing colors after every round
gets annoying, so you may want to
do 4-5 rounds of one color than 2-3
          rounds of the next.

It also looks nice to do the same
number of rounds with each color.

If you start to run low on one color as you are
crocheting, finish the round you are on and then
make your next stripe early. In this case I ran out
of lavender and had to make my last purple stripe
sooner than I had wanted to, but it still looks okay.

POM POM HATS

Look under Crochet Accessories to learn how to make a pom pom.

After making the multicolored
brimon this hat I decided to add
a pom pom with the same
multicolor yarn.

Making a hat with a solid brim and
pom pom also comes out looking
very nice.

This multicolored yarn was so nice I
decided to use it for the hat and the pom pom
